Speaking at GWU
I had the pleasure on Saturday of being asked to speak at a human sexuality course at George Washington University on behalf of EF. It was a graduate level class full of students learning how to be counselors and they wanted us to speak about what it's like to be part of a minority group. Of course, my experiences aren't necessarily the same as another person's, but at least it gives them my perspective as well as stories I could relate from other people.
We had a great discussion and it was wonderful to be able to speak with them. We probably could have gone on for three hours rather than the hour plus a little that we had.
We've been lucky enough in the last 10 months to be asked to speak at Northern Virginia Community College, George Mason University and Thomas Edison High School in addition to yesterday's visit to George Washington University.
We're always looking for people who are willing to speak at these sorts of things. Because our community is so diverse it's difficult for a board of half a dozen people to be able to represent an entire community. So, if you'd be interested in being on our list of potential speakers, please let us know. If you would like a speake, whether for the clasroom, church, business or any other group that might want to become more educated on LGBT issues, please contact us. We'd be happy to help!
