Putting the "Fair" in Fairfax & GMU Literary Festival

Bring all of your friends, family and other allies to two important community meetings -- Putting the "Fair" in Fairfax Senate Discussion Forum on September 27th and House Forum on October 9th. Turnout is critical -- elected officials in Virginia need to know that our issues DO matter. Our strength will be judged by our numbers.

At these non-partisan forums, candidates running in the November elections for the Virginia Senate and House will answer questions about issues impacting the GLBT community.

Candidates representing Fairfax, Centreville, Chantilly, Burke, Vienna, Oakton, McLean, Springfield, Franconia, Clifton, Fairfax Station and Lorton will be in attendance at the Senate Forum. These include:

34th Senate: Jeannemarie Devolites Davis and Chap Petersen (both confirmed)

37th Senate: Ken Cuccinelli and Janet Oleszek (Oleszek has confirmed; Cuccinelli unable to attend)

39th Senate: Jay O'Brien and George Barker (Baker has confirmed; O'Brien unable to attend)

Equality Fairfax, Equality Virginia, Virginia Partisans G&L Democratic Club, and Log Cabin Republicans of Virginia are co-sponsoring these non-partisan discussion forums.

This is our chance to hear directly from the candidates about issues impacting our community before the November elections. Please take a couple hours out of your busy schedule to attend these worthwhile community events.  Even if you can't make it until 7:15pm or 7:30pm, please still come.  See http://www.equalityfairfax.org/node/2885 for further information.

Fall for the Book Literary Festival

As part of George Mason University's annual Fall for the Book literary festival, the Office of Diversity has co-sponsored six authors to speak at the festival from September 23-27.

What began as a two-day literary event in 1999, organized by George Mason University and the City of Fairfax, Fall for the Book has expanded into a week-long, multiple-venue, regional festival that brings together people of all ages and interests.

For more information on authors with a GLBT perspective who will be speaking, see http://www.equalityfairfax.org/node/2898
