GLBT Men’s and Women’s World Soccer Championship Seeks Volunteers

April 1st, 2009 Equality Fairfax No comments

IGLFAThe Federal Triangles Soccer Club of Washington DC is looking for volunteers for this summer’s GLBT Men’s and Women’s World Soccer Championship.

In order to make this event, which attracts players from around the globe, a success, the Club needs the support of the DC volunteer community.

The need range from providing meals for a player to administration, translators, field monitors, events staff and people willing to house players from out of town during the week of the tournament. The Club receives many requests from players who would like to participate but can’t afford a hotel room in DC, so it’s asking men and women to consider opening their homes.

If you want to find out more about how you can help contact our volunteer coordinator Amanda Pyron volunteersiglfa2009@gmail.com or visit http://www.iglfa2009.org/

Hiking

August 28th, 2008 Equality Fairfax No comments
September 28, 2008
12:00 pmto2:00 pm

hikeThis is the hike that was rescheduled from September 7th, 2008.

Join EF for a hike in the woods. It’s a lovely walk along the Occoquan River. We’ll meet at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park near Clifton and then hike down a hillside to the river and then walk along the trail with beautiful views of the river. The hike is about 1 1/2 hours, mainly flat but is hilly at the start and finish. The trail is also well shaded.

After the hike we can enjoy some cold sodas and snacks in the picnic pavilion (and anything other folks want to bring along).

Dogs are very welcome! (the park requires dogs to be leashed). Lots of spots off the river for dogs for swimming.

We’ll meet at the education center right off the parking lot at 12pm. Look for the EF sign. RSVPs to info@equalityfairfax.org appreciated so we know to look for you.

Kayaking

July 9th, 2008 Equality Fairfax No comments
August 9, 2008
8:30 am

kayakWho needs Starbucks to wake up in the morning. How about a nice relaxing morning on the water in a slow moving kayak floating down the Occoquan chatting away with friends. If your a perky person in the AM you can talk someone into a quick race. What  better way to start off your Saturday morning.

Join Equality Fairfax at Fountainhead Regional Park for a good day on the water. It is calm and the scenery beautiful, perfect for beginners and nice for experienced kayakers as well. A great opportunity for your first kayak experience.

We’ll meet at 8:30 prompt at the rental building at the marina. We should be ready to launch by 9:00 am.

We are starting early before it gets too hot and to make sure that we can get the kayaks as reservations for the kayaks are not accepted by the park.

Kayaks are for rent at the park — $7 per hour, life vest flat fee of $3.00 or bring your own. There is a very easy in and out for launching the kayaks. There are also canoes available to rent. Don’t forget to bring some water to drink. Folks with their own kayaks are more than welcome to join in.

After we kayak, for those who wish to go, we will be going to the Austin Grill off of Old Keene Mill Road in Springfield for brunch.

For information on the park and directions go to  Fountainhead website.

For more information about the kayak outing, email info@equalityfairfax.org.

Top Golf – Putt Putt and Driving Range

March 13th, 2008 Equality Fairfax No comments
April 13, 2008
3:00 pmto5:00 pm

golfWhether you are a golfer, or want to be a golfer, Top Golf is perfect for you.  From two 18 hole putt putt courses, to a 250 yard driving range, Top Golf makes for a fun afternoon.

For those who want to do the driving range, what makes this facility unique is that each golf ball has a microchip which will tell you how far you drove the ball, and if you happen to hit one of the 11 huge targets. Points are awarded for hitting the targets.  Think darts, but with golf balls.  It is a bunch of fun.

Come and join us to play, or even watch.  There is a small fee to play, around $5 a game.  Top Golf even provides complimentary golf clubs.  See which Equality Fairfax Board members gets really competitive.  For more information, please contact Equality Fairfax Board member Jay Dick at jay@equalityfairfax.org.

An Afternoon of Golf, Food and Drink

March 21st, 2007 Equality Fairfax No comments
April 21, 2007
3:00 pmto6:00 pm

golfCome join your fellow Equality Fairfax members for Golf, Food and Drink. We will be meeting at TopGolf, a driving and mini golf range in Kingstowne for several hours of golfing fun. TopGolf has two 18 hole mini golf courses in addition to a state of the art driving range. Every golf ball that you hit on the driving range has a computer chip in it that registers if you hit a target. Think of a game of darts, but with an area 200 yards long, 50 yards wide and 9 very large targets. When you hit a target, you get points and the computer tells you how far you drive the ball. It is a lot of fun.

Each game of mini golf is $7 and if you want to do the driving range, the cost is $3 for a 30 day membership, plus $5.80 per game (each game is 20 balls). A game normally lasts around 20-30 minutes with 2-4 people in one driving bay, so plan on 2-4 games over a 2 hour period. Equality Fairfax Board Members will be present to help you out with the driving range, so don’t worry, it will be lots of fun.

We will be at the TopGolf from 3-5 pm and then adjourn to Ruby Tuesdays which is next door for an hour or so for drinks and food.

If you have any questions, or to RSVP, please email jay@equalityfairfax.org.
