
Equality Fairfax is a 501(c)(3) charitable, nonpartisan, not for profit corporation established to eliminate discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the county of Fairfax, Virginia.
Equality Fairfax strives to meet its goal through dialog, visibility, charitable endeavors and civic involvement; all efforts aim to achieve equality by educating and informing Fairfax County residents and business, religious and community leaders on the needs, concerns and contributions of their gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender neighbors.
We can only achieve our equality goals through visibility:
Civic and Community Service:
Projects that demonstrate our commitment to improve the quality of life for all Fairfax citizens and that reflect the positive image of GLBT people in our neighborhoods, places of worship and workplaces.
Social Activities:
A wide variety of social events that provide a safe and comfortable community for GLBT persons in Fairfax County while furthering equality by increasing understanding of GLBT contributions and needs through visibility.
Awareness:
Vigorous nonpartisan issues advocacy that ensure GLBT voices are an integral part of the local and state government decision-making process.
How will we achieve our goals?
Mobilization:
- Generate support from the thousands of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender citizens of Fairfax County (and those who support us) by attending county fairs, church events, Pride Day.
Organization:
- Maintain an elected Board of Directors and officers.
- Maintain committees:membership, outreach, technology, volunteer, scholarship, process
Action:
- Participate in civic projects.
- Work with public officials on issues important to the gay and lesbian community.
- Work with the business community to develop gay-friendly work environments.
- Grow membership, raise fund and increase visibility through social events such as annual spring dance, summer picnic and fall night out.
